Local Woman Sentenced To Five Years In Prison For Fatal DUI Accident

Alys Martinez

Five years and four months in State prison. That sentence was handed down on Friday to a 22-year old Santa Barbara woman convicted in a fatal DUI crash that killed 25-year old Alex Baer.

Jessica Binkerd's case gained notoriety, namely because the victim's mother campaigned to have Binkerd sentenced to probation not prison.
In August, Binkerd was driving home from a party with Susan Barich's son, Baer, when her Ford crashed head on into a Lexus. Barich asked the court to allow her family to express compassion and forgiveness toward Binkerd. Today in court, Judge Joseph Lodge disagreed. KEY News reporter Beth Farnsworth has the emotional story.
