Parishioners going to Sunday mass as Santa Barbara's Old Mission were met by protesters.
A small group carrying signs said they were against sexual abuse by priests within the church.
The demonstrators said the church was not strong enough against priests who have committed violations, and some have been allowed to be near young boys again.
A spokesperson for the Catholic Archdiocese, said the focus of the protest was misguided and did not address sexual abuse in society as a whole.
