Drivers Beware, ID Thefts On The Rise At The Gas Pump

Goleta, CA-- In an unnerving case of serial identity theft, investigators are looking for those responsible for attaching "skimmers" on credit card readers at 3 local Valero gas stations.

The skimmers allow criminals to steal account information. The skimmers access your card information just like a regular credit card machine.

Stations located in Goleta, Fillmore and Ojai were targeted between May 1st and June 30th of this year.

Valero gas stations are now taking a proactive stance to help prevent this from happening again by, doing visual checks of all their gas pumps throughout the day.

Always remember to double check to make sure nothing is attached to the credit card reader before you swipe your card.
