LocalGrandmother Faces 6 Years In Prison For Locking Up Granddaughter
San Luis Obispo, CA-- Tami Underwood, a 43-year-old Atascadero woman, is facing 6 years in prison after pleading no contest to felony child endangerment charges.
According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Jerret Gran, Underwood struck a plea deal with prosecutors on Friday. Underwood, who was accused of physically abusing and locking away her 9-year-old granddaughter without food, water and bathroom breaks, agreed to a 6-year prison term. Gran told KEY News, Underwood remains in custody and her sentencing is scheduled for late September. Gran also said the victim and Underwood's two biological children are in protective custody. Shortly after Underwood was arrested in Oregon, a suspicious fire destroyed her Atascadero, where investigators say the abuse took place. Captain Bill White with the Atascadero Fire Department, said the fire investigation is on going, and members of the department's arson unit are working with the Atascadero Police Department. |
