Kidnapping Suspect Tries To Escape Jail Cell

Ventura, CA-- A man police believe snatched a toddler from her parents Oxnard bedroom and sexually assaulted the child was attempting to make a jail break this week.

23-year-old Carlos Morales was keeping bed sheets in his cell. Ventura County Jail officials believe he was trying to make a rope.

Sheriff deputies say Morales had also tried to saw through bars covering the window in his cell.

Morales was taken into custody after Oxnard Police found him in a car a with a 20-month old girl just hours after she was reportedly kidnapped.

Morales, who is not a U.S. Citizen, pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping and sex crimes charges and is being held without bail.
