Holocaust Survivor Speaks To Local Students About Combating Hate

Christina Heller

Oxnard, CA-- On Wednesday night, The El Rio School District held a moment of silence for the African- American security guard killed at the National Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.

The Anti-Defamation League honored the district for its role in addressing prejudice and bias, and creating what it calls "no place for hate" schools.

Holocaust survivor Judy Meisel spoke to the crowd about the importance of teaching children to counteract hate.

Elementary and middle school students also shared their lessons on tolerance and diversity.

Students from Rio Lindo Elementary School explained how they put hurtful and unkind words on a "dead word wall" that looks like a cemetery.
