Cars set on fire blocks apart in Goleta, apartments damaged...

Christina Heller

Investigators are trying to figure out who started two separate car fires that happened just blocks from each other. The first incident happened last night just after 11:30 p.m.. Fire fighters responded to two vehicles on fire next to an apartment complex on the 300 block of Mathilda Drive in Goleta. The flames were put out quickly but not before damaging two apartment units. They sustained smoke and heat damage.

The second incident happened just a few hours later around 2:15 a.m. this morning on the 300 block of Elwood Beach Drive. Three more vehicles were set on fire next to an apartment complex there. Fire fighters were able to contain that blaze in a matter of minutes. No one was injured in the incidents but fire officials believe the same person or persons were behind each fire.
