Movie Shoot Begins, Extras Excited About Appearances

The stars were out Wednesday in Santa Barbara for the filming of a new Universal Pictures movie.

Actress Meryl Streep was first to be spotted by curious on lookers along Anacapa Street across from the main Post Office. She is part of a cast that also includes Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. The romantic-comedy is expected to be out in December.

Many Santa Barbara locations are going to be used in the film including, De La Guerra Plaza, the Courthouse Sunken Gardens, and portions of Highway 101 along the coast.

The film will also feature several local residents who were chosen to play background characters in street scenes.

One is John Dickson who says, "as I understand it I'm gonna be a pedestrian in the front of a doctor's office. Meryl Streep will be coming out and talking to a psychologist with a dog. I'm gonna be that person who walks by in the back ground." Dickson says the film makers have also asked to use his car, a Prius to give the film a more earth-friendly look when the Santa Barbara street scenes are shot.

The film's name has not been released.
