San Luis Obispo County Supes Say No To Offshore Oil Development

Written by Christina Heller

San Luis Obispo, CA-- The County of San Luis Obispo now joins Santa Barbara County in opposing further offshore oil exploration.

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors approved a letter Tuesday morning, taking a stand against new oil drilling off the California coast. The letter is similar to one approved last week by supervisors in Santa Barbara.

Both counties want their positions known prior to a federal hearing next week in the Bay Area that will focus on offshore oil issues.

San Luis Obispo says even though it hasn't had an oil spill like Santa Barbara's 1969 spill, it has felt the impacts of oil development problems, including a disaster with leaky pipelines in Avila Beach.
