Post-Office Hours Will Not Be Extended For This Year's Tax Season
Santa Barbara, CA-- With the deadline fast approaching to file your taxes, many procrastinators may not be able to make that last minute mail drop.
This year many local post offices will not stay open until midnight. All, but one, of the area post offices will be closing at their normal time this Wednesday at 6-p.m. Post office officials say that the Ellwood Post Office at 400 Storke Road in Goleta, will be open until 8 p.m. If you file late at night, you will need to file electronically to meet the midnight deadline. Post office officials say that there are a couple factors that they considered when they decided to stay open normal business hours. One, is the IRS reported that last year about 60% of filers did so electronically and that number is expected to rise this year. The United States Postal Service is also trying to cut costs by not having employees work extra hours. The nearest post office that will be open until midnight is the main office in Van Nuys. |
