Beanie Baby Mogul Gets Go-Ahead For Golf Course Improvements

Written by Alys Martinez

Beanie Baby mogul Ty Warner is ready to tee off on a $15 million dollar golf course project. Warner owns the financially struggling Rancho San Marcos Golf Course on Highway 154.

County Supervisors have given him the go-ahead to make major improvements to the course, and hold two pro-style events a year. After months of debate over the proposal, the Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 on Tuesday to approve the project.

The plan also calls for a larger restaurant and, for the first time, the sale of alcohol. Some neighbors expressed concern about the size of crowds using the course along with traffic on San Marcos Pass.
But, Cal Trans and the CHP did not oppose the project, and plan to work with the golf course on safety plans. Course renovations are scheduled to begin in January.
