Santa Barbara City College Enacts Emergency Alert System

Written by Mike Waller

Santa Barbara City College has enacted it's new Emergency Alert System. It's called AlertU and will alert cell phone users registered in the system by text message.

SBCC President Andrea Serban says the recent Tea Fire is a great example of when AlertU would have been very helpful.

"We lost power on campus the night the fire started. We had to evacuate the entire campus," Serban said. "We were able to do so because our security staff is very dedicated. However it would've been helpful to broadcast a message immediately and reach everyone."

All students and staff can register on the schools homepage. Only 500 students have signed up to date.

To register for AlertU, go to http://www.sbcc.edu/alert/.
