Goats Help Firefighters in Santa Barbara

John Palminteri

They have one of the best appetites for work anyone has seen.
A herd of goats has started to take a bite out of TV Hill in Santa Barbara, to chew through the brush and reduce the fire dangers.

The Buellton based company "Brush Goats 4 Hire" has 50 goats on the steep, rugged terrain for the next month. The end result will be a substantial reduction in chaparral, weeds, and tall grass.

David Beard with the Dreier Group, says instead of having a hand crew with noisy equipment, like chain saws, the goats are doing all the work.
Brush Goats 4 Hire, associate, Pam Meyer says the goats are up early and put in a long day. Before they were on TV Hill, the goats took a bite out of Mission Canyon across town to reduce fire dangers there.

KEY News Senior Reporter John Palminteri takes us to the hill where the goats are eating to show you just how much of an effect they can have.
