16-Year-Old Charged In Infant's Death

Santa Maria, CA-- A 16-year-old murder suspect accused of killing an infant in Santa Maria is being charged as an adult.

The tragic incident happened at the child's mothers home at 920 W. Cox Lane in Santa Maria.

Police say the accused teen, Todd Haxton Jr., is the 20 year old mother's boyfriend.
They claim he allegedly abused the crying baby, Victor Delfin Jr., causing injuries that led to the child's death.
The baby was hospitalized Friday and died Monday.
Haxton's family in Goleta, says he is innocent and the injuries were caused by another person.

The baby's parents have not commented.

Police say they are going to do an intensive back ground check to find out more details about those who cared for the child prior to the abuse and death.
