Washington, D.C.-- A California congressman representing parts of San Luis Obispo County gets a major honor.

Roll Call named Republican Kevin McCarthy the House's "Rookie Of The Year."

McCarthy is from Bakersfield, but he represents inland San Luis Obispo County stretching from Paso Robles to parts of Arroyo Grande and Nipomo.

As a freshman congressman, the Republican became the GOP's chief deputy whip. That's the number three position for House Republicans.
