Snow Shuts Down Major Socal Freeways
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Snow has jammed highways today as a new wave of stormy weather moves through California.
One person has been killed in a wind-related helicopter crash in the Bouquet Canyon area near Santa Clarita, and numerous traffic accidents have occurred. Snow has shut down the Interstate 15 over the Cajon Pass east of Los Angeles and also roads through the San Gabriel Mountains. Local bus service has been canceled in the Antelope Valley, along with commuter buses connecting metropolitan L.A. to the suburbs of Palmdale and Lancaster. A Metrolink spokesman says the regional rail system has agreed to carry bus commuters back home who had already reached L.A. The Interstate 5 remains open over 4,144-foot Tejon Pass but with California Highway Patrol escorting commuters. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for recent burn areas in Los Angeles County. Temperatures this morning dropped to the mid-20s in the valleys north of San Francisco Bay.
