City Saddened By Mayor's Sudden Death
Port Hueneme, CA-- The City of Port Hueneme is mourning the loss of Mayor Toni Young. Young passed away Tuesday morning unexpectedly following a sudden illness.
Young was 56 and is survived by her husband, Otto of 38 years and three grown children. Mayor Young's unexpected death comes one day before she planned to retire from a 16-year career with the Port Hueneme City Council. Her career began in November of 1992, when she was the first woman elected to the council in 30 years. She was also the first woman to serve as Mayor for the City of Port Hueneme. Mayor Young was born and raised in Los Angeles. Young served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict she later received an honorable discharge. Funeral arrangements have not be announced at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mayor Toni Young to the Boys and Girls Club of Port Hueneme, 590 East Pleasant Valley Road, Port Hueneme, CA 93041, and the Ray D. Prueter Library, 510 Park Avenue, Port Hueneme, CA 93041. |
