UPDATE: City Council Repeals 911 Fee
UPDATE: On Monday evening member of the Ventura City Council unanimously voted to repeal the City's Emergency Communication System Response Fee.
The council will officially repeal the 911 Fee during a regularly scheduled meeting on Jan.12th. Ventura's 911 Fee was the first in the state to give residents the choice of paying a $1.49/month fee for unlimited emergency calls to 911 or a pay as you call option. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ventura, CA-- The Ventura City Council will reconsider it's controversial 911 fee Monday tonight. The fee is intended to pay for the hiring of more police and firefighters and to fund the Emergency Services Communication Center. However, the $1.49 a month unlimited emergency call fee has led to a number of lawsuits, and at least one city council member thinks that could cost the city money it doesn't have. If the fee is repealed, the city will have to reconsider putting another sales tax increase to fund public safety on the June ballot.
