Wildlife Affected By Oil Spill
Santa Barbara, CA-- More than 1420 gallons of oil spilled from a platform off the coast of Santa Barbara county over the weekend.
Initial reports indicated no marine life was affected by the spill. However, Wildlife Care Network officials say that's not true. Earlier this week they found a California pelican suspected suffering from injuries as a result of the spill. The bird was also found with a broken wing. It was euthanized because it could never fly again. Wildlife responders are monitoring the shores from Santa Barbara down to Ventura carefully looking for any more oiled wildlife. A few birds have been spotted with oil but were not able to be captured because they could still fly or swim away. Anyone who comes across oiled wildlife is asked to contact the Wildlife Care Network at 966-9005 or 1-877-823-6926. |
