Big Rig Collision Shuts Down 101 For Hours
Carpinteria, CA-- A jackknifed big rig caused a major back-up for morning commuters on Highway 101. The accident occurred just south of Casitas Pass off-ramp around 3:30 Wednesday morning.
CHP responded to the scene to find all lanes of northbound traffic blocked and diesel fuel spilling onto the roadway. Commuters were stuck in traffic for hours as clean-up crews tended to the fuel spill and CHP officers conducted their investigation. Officers say, 28-year-old Carlos Figueroa of Los Angeles made an unsafe turn which caused him to lose control of the big rig he was driving. There were no reports of major injuries and alcohol was not a factor. |
