CHP Searching For Answers In Possible Hit and Run

Written by Alys Martinez

The CHP is asking for your help to solve what they believe was a fatal hit and run. On Thursday July 27, 2006 between 5:30-6:00 PM, Montecito resident Ronald Shlensky, age 71, was walking his dog on Knapp Drive near his home. Just after 6 PM, a local resident found Mr. Shlensky bleeding on the ground and called 911.

Shlensky was pronounced dead the following day. An autopsy conducted by the Santa Barbara County Coroner's Office revealed that Mr. Shlensky sustained blunt-force type injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. CHP is now investigating this incident as a motor vehicle collision.

Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding this case and the lack of evidence identifying the type of vehicle which may have stuck Mr. Shlensky, the CHP is requesting the public's help in solving this case. If anyone has information regarding this case or had been in the area of Knapp Drive and Arcady Drive in the late afternoon on July 27th, you are urged to call the CHP at 967-1234. As the investigation continues, a decision will be made as to whether or not this is a case of felony hit and run.
