The Decline of Santa Barbara's Bohnett Park

David Johns

It was once a popular park, a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors on Santa Barbara's Westside. Now Bohnett Park has become a haven for vandals-- a location of crime, graffiti and trash . All this despite, an expensive tax dollar makeover- not so long ago. Just about every wooden rail, light pole, sign, rock and even the trees here have been damaged by vandals in the last two years. The city says it's trying to keep up with funding and cleanup programs but it's very costly. Many residents say the once cleaned up creek is
a bad mess these days and needs immediate help. The Creeks Division says it plans to work with the City Parks Department to clean up the current vandalism and trash around the Bohnett Park Creek.
It's a vital area for the Westside of Santa Barbara which has thousands of residents and very little open space for parks. See more now with Key News Senior Reporter John Palminteri.
