Historic Solar Orchard Unveiled In Ventura County

Santa Paula, CA-- A local grower cleared a large field to make room for solar panels. And now it has bragging rights for the first ever solar orchard.

For more than a century Limoneira has been known for growing citrus, now its farming something new, the sun.

The new solar orchard will produce a megawatt of energy that will cut Limoneira energy costs down to 7 cents a kilowatt in just a few years. Local college students learning about Green Technology will maintain the 6400 photo voltaic panels by keeping them clean.

Plans are in the works to for a second Limoneira Solar Orchard in the San Joaquin Valley.
