Jellyfish Cause Closure Of Nuclear Reactor

Written by Christina Heller

San Luis Obispo County, CA-- A swarm of jellyfish are being blamed for the shutdown of a reactor at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. According to officials at the power plant, the moon jellies clogged a cooling water intake structure which forced the shutdown of the reactor.

The reactor was shut down just before 9 on Tuesday night after the jellyfish interfered with the cooling pumps.

A plant spokeswoman said, divers were sent into the waters to inspect the equipment and see if any damage was caused by the jellyfish.
