Countywide Coalition Launches Measure A Campaign

Mike Waller

A group of high profile people from around Santa Barbara County gathered at the Courthouse Arch on Tuesday to throw their support behind the passage of Measure A.

Supervisors Salud Carbajal and Brooks Firestone were joined by Mayors Marty Blum and Linda Jackson as well as COLAB's Andy Caldwell and Santa Barbara Taxpayers Association, Joe Armendariz.

They say Measure A that will appear on the November ballot will continue what has been a vital source of local funding to support Santa Barbara County's fair and balanced plan for maintaining and improving roads and highways, enhancing public transit, widening Highway 101 and making streets safer for bicycling and walking.

The measure must pass by a two-thirds margin.

A number of residents oppose the proposed tax saying the county will have to find other ways to fund those programs.
