GAP Fire: Burn Area Rehabilitation
With the GAP Fire leaving more than 9500 acres above the Goleta Foothills bare, the National Forest Service has determined how it will treat it's portion of the land. About 4500 acres of Forest Service land will be treated with hydro-mulch. The treatment will help to protect the area from erosion until the natural vegetation can re-establish itself. Hydro-mulching is all organic and safe for people, pets and the environment. New vegetation typically takes three to five years to return.
