As of the first of the year, Santa Maria is named the most populous city in Santa Barbara County.

Santa Maria has an estimated 90,204 residents and the next largest city - Santa Barbara - weighs in at 89,548.

Some say the increase was imminent, now that median price of a home in Santa Barbara is more than $1 million, more than twice as high as a typical home in Santa Maria.
