Santa Barbara Standoff Ends Overnight
The standoff between Santa Barbara Sheriff's Deputies and a wanted suspect ended at around 1:20 a.m. when Christopher Anderson was arrested at gunpoint near Goleta.
The ordeal lasted more than 10 hours. Anderson was in a Jeep Cherokee, driving west on Hollister when authorities tried to pull him over. A pursuit ended in a collision and the vehicle crashing through barricades at a road repair project. Eye witness Julia DiSieno said, "there were about ten black and whites and a couple of undercover cars." Anderson ran through the back of the Faith Baptist Church and Learningden Pre School. He was cornered in a home where he has been staying. It is reportedly owned by a family member. The SWAT team arrived, sealed off the area and used a loud speaker to call Anderson out. When he did not comply they used a concussion device, pepper balls and tear gas on the structure. At one point officers threw a cell phone into the house trying to negotiate with him, but law enforcement officials say he never answered the phone. Sheriff's Lt. Alex Tipolt says the suspect was found hiding in a closet. The Sheriff's Department says the suspect is wanted for a probation violation.
