Miramar Hotel Decision Delayed

Will a piece of Montecito's beachfront history fade like the sands of time away or will it make a comeback along the scenic coast? That's what's being decided by the Montecito Planning Commission.
Developer Rick Caruso and his team sat through a ten hour hearing yesterday only to be told to come back in August while further issues are analyzed.
This after he told the commission during the lengthy hearing that he had "all day."
Caruso has spent millions of dollars on the dormant project so far.
He bought the site in January of 2007 from Beenie Baby mogul Ty Warner who lost interest in the development after facing community criticism on his nearby Biltmore Hotel and Coral Casino projects.

Among those to speak out, Julia Louis Dreyfus, a star from the TV show Seinfeld who used her married name Julia Hall. She has a property near the hotel site and said the 204 room proposal was too big. She wanted it reduced. Specifically, using a line from a famous Seinfeld episode, she said this project needs, "shrinkage, and that's no joke." The line was read without a smile, but garnered a few chuckles and some laughs.
Her husband Brad Hall said the project needed a full Environmental Impact Report and said it was "absurd" not to have one for the 16 acre project.
Caruso presented the commission with a hi tech, virtually reality tour of the proposal which included aerial shots and flying visuals.
He also showed a custom video with a musical tribute to the Miramar, it's history, and it's tradition on the Montecito coast.

Montecito planners had several unanswered questions. They asked for the project to go through further review and come back at a meeting set for August 6th.
