07/03/08: GAP Fire Latest
The Gap Fire has burned about 3,000 acres and is threatening as
many as 1,000 structures in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains above Goleta. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for residents living along several roads west of the San Marcos Pass and in the Hidden Valley, Trout Club and Painted Cave communities. Some 40,000 Southern California Edison customers lost power around 7:20 p.m. when fire surrounded a power substation, but power has been restored. About 750 firefighters are battling the fire. A fire official says wind gusts are expected to reach 40 miles per hour tonight. The Associated Press |
