Christina Heller

Ventura County Sheriff's Gang Unit has arrested Janelle Mata in connection to a drive-by shooting that occurred in April. The shooting took place on Balboa St in El Rio an unincorporated area of Oxnard. According to a press release, Mata was charged with attempted murder after a lengthy investigation. Sheriff deputies subsequently pulled over a car Mata was a passenger in shortly after the April shooting took place. The vehicle was occupied by Mata, another female adult, a 2 year old and a 2 month old infant. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities found a sawed off shotgun wrapped in a baby blanket, along with a number of handguns and ammunition in a clothing carrier. Mata and the female driver were initially booked and posted bail for shooting at an inhabited dwelling, possession of a stolen handgun and other weapons charges. After reviewing additional information about the case, Mata was re-arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail. She is being held on $500,000 bail.
