Gang Prevention Starts With Good Peers and Jobs
Many young people say the way to stay out of gangs, or avoid trouble this summer is to hang with the right crowd, and try to find a job.
The City of Santa Barbara has had several meetings with school, police and political leaders to lay out a plan to help kids who may need help with employment, or summer activities. One student said he works at a fast food restaurant now and wants to also work at a community swimming pool during the summer. Another student said he likes music and his parents are helping him find an internship at a recording student. School officials say they can direct any interested student to local youth employment opportunities. Some are new offerings from local businesses through out reach efforts from the Chamber of Commerce. Senior Reporter John Palminteri has spoke to many students about the plan, along with police Chief Cam Sanchez and has our report. |
