Seven people have been arrested by the Santa Barbara Police Department in connection to a 2007 homicide. Santa Barbara Police have arrested 3 men and 4 juveniles in connection to a previously unsolved stabbing incident that left a 16 yr old Santa Barbara boy dead. Lorenzo Carachure, a student at San Marcos High School, was stabbed to death in early July of 2007 after a fight occurred at the intersection Ortega St. and San Pascual St. The night of the stabbing witnesses initially told police a large fight broke out between Carachure and three friends when a separate, larger group of men armed with bats, clubs and knives began following them. Those that were armed reportedly chased down the victims one by one, stabbing all three of the victims. Police believe all of the suspects arrested are involved with gangs and are continuing to investigate this crime and any other individuals believed to be connected.
"We will find you every single time," said Chief Cam Sanchez on the steps of police headquarters. "Nine months ago we promised the family, we promised the community, that these types of incidents are unacceptable."
He warned anyone who was involved in gangs or criminal behavior, that "there's your warning, We don't care who you are, what you look like, what color you are or where you live, if you commit crimes in Santa Barbara we will find you."
One of those injured the night of the killing, still has a scar on his arm and says he has seen the community rally behind the family. "I think they care, they actually care, I like that." said 18 year old Rogelio Hernandez.
KEY News Senior Reporter John Palminteri spoke with police and has more on the arrests.
