Predator Killed By Prey
In late March Julia Di Sieno came across an interesting find along Highway 246. While transporting an ill night heron from Santa Maria to Solvang, she noticed on the side of the road a wounded Sharp-skinned hawk. Being the animal lover that she is, Ms.Di Sieno turned her car around to check on the bird. When she approached the bird she noticed a leg of another bird protruding from the hawk's chest. She immediately drove the dying bird to Dr. Betram's Veterinary Hospital in Solvang. Unfortunately the hawk's injuries were fatal and it died on the way to the hospital. Although the bird struggled relentlessly to escape it's death, the hawk had digested most of it's body. Julia says that while Animal Rescue Team can't save them all they sure can try. Animal Rescue Team will be holding a fundraiser in July at the Foxen Canyon Winery, if you're interested in attending please call 805-896-1859.
