Predictions For 2008 Fire Season
Although Southern California did experience a fairly wet winter, fire experts are predicting a drier, hotter fire season then ever before. Meteorologists are predicting a 40% chance of above-normal temperatures to scorch through the Southland during the summer months. Fire officials fear the hot temps will create an abundance of fire fuel by drying out the vegetation that sprung up after the heavy winter rains. That's why firefighters are bracing for a busy season during the months of August through the end of September. Historically, those months have seen some of the most devastating wind-driven fires throughout the state. KEY News Reporter Mike Klan spoke to Ventura County Firefighters about their 2008 preparations.
