School District May be Sued for Stolen Lunch Money

Kyra Jenkins

The Oxnard Union High School District may face a lawsuit over the case of an autistic teen whose lunch money was stolen every day for two months by a teacher's aide at Camarillo High School. An Oxnard woman, Kristen Santoyo, has already pleaded guilty to theft which was caught on a hidden camera during an investigation by Camarillo Police. The undercover operation was prompted when the girl's parent complained to the school. Santoyo will be sentenced next month. However, a lawyer for the teen's family says they plan to file a claim against the school and the district which is the first step towards filing a lawsuit. The lawyer says even though only five dollars was taken from the teen every day, the emotional impact on the child was significant. You can learn more in this report from Ventura County Bureau Chief Tracy Lehr.
