Suspect Faces Animal Abuse Charges

Kyra Jenkins

A Santa Barbara man faces felony charges for allegedly abusing his roommates kitten.
Nicholas Thompson allegedly beat the cat to near death and then prevented his roommate from taking the four month old kitten to the vet.

Police say it happened at his mesa apartment in November when Thompson became angry with the kitten. Local animal advocates say a stiff penalty in any abuse case could help prevent others.
The feline has made a full recovery.
Thompson was in court facing additional charges of false imprisonment and battery involving his roommate. He will be back in court next week on the separate charge of animal abuse.
