LocalCars versus Bikes, Part IIKEYS NEWS is investigating who owns the road and who is entitled to bend to another's will when drivers and bicyclists come together. In part I we showed you some of the biggest problem areas and the worst offenses. Now John Palminteri investigates some solutions that might make your drive and ride a little safer. Some drivers interviewed wanted to know why bike riders can run a red light. Some bikers say drivers need to respect them on the road as well. In Isla Vista, where thousands of bikers share the road near UC Santa Barbara, the area requires more law enforcement for supervision. The potential for accidents is high and many riders can be seen on their cell phones riding in congested areas. Traffic officers tell us if they see offenders, they have to find a way to pull them over and it's not that easy. Bike riders tell us to avoid problems drivers should indicate before making a lane change. Driver say bikers should share the road. KEY NEWS Reporter John Paliminteri brings you part II of this investigation from both sides of the wheel. |
