Local Fire Station Plans for Solar Energy ProjectLocal firefighters in the business of saving lives are now on track to saving the environment. Santa Barbara's Mayor, City Council members and staff introduced their first building solar project today. The panels planted on the roof top of fire station will be able to power half the fire station while cutting electricity costs by $3,500 a year. The net cost of the project is $190,000 minus a $43,000 grant. The city estimates a 20-25 year payback period before the financial benefits kick in.
