A Central Coast woman in need of a life-saving kidney transplant gets closer to her goal on Saturday.
Libby Walling, the kidney recipient, said the barbecue benefit put on by the Santa Maria Elks brought her about $1,800 closer to a goal of $25,000 she must fund raise for the kidney transplant surgery.
Walling and her husband Bob said the community has shown overwhelming support in her battle.
Walling received her first transplant from her brother nearly 30 years ago.
Walling said, "It’s pretty emotional to have two family members who have made that sacrifice for me. You don't realize how important it is until you face it. I just can't believe they've come forward for me."
Walling hopes to have the kidney transplant by June. Her younger sister is the kidney donor.
