SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Hundreds of Santa Barbara residents and community leaders honored Martin Luther King Jr. with a march and concert, Monday.
The Unity March began at 10 A.M. at De La Guerra Plaza and led up to the historic Arlington Theater.
This year's theme was "Lift Every Voice," which encourages people to take part in social justice issues. At the theater a choir calling themselves Community Voices sang and community leaders like State Senator Hannah Beth Jackson spoke.
"Today we look out and realize that we need to keep that message," Jackson said.
In addition to Jackson, State Assembly man Das Williams and County Supervisor Salud Carbajal also spoke.
There were also essay and poetry winners from local high school, middle and elementary school students. Their essays and poems reflected on how everyone can raise their voices involving social justice issues.
