Same Suspect in Pismo, Atascadero, and Arroyo Grande Bank Robberies

Gonzales Caught in Atascadero, Tied to Two Other Robberies

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Update: (Tuesday, April 22, 1 p.m.)

The Arroyo Grande Police Department will also request bank robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery charges against Tonya Michelle Young with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office.

The man arrested for robbing a bank in Atascadero April 18th, is also suspected of robbing a bank in Arroyo Grande, and Pismo Beach recently.

George Jessie Gonzales, 55, was arrested Friday on suspicion of robbing the Chase Bank on the 8000 block of El Camino real in Atascadero. He was hiding in the trunk of the suspected getaway car shortly after the robbery. The Santa Maria man was arrested after a standoff with officers surrounding the car at gun point.

Young, 33, of Paso Robles, was also arrested after the Chase Bank robbery in Atascadero.

The Arroyo Grande Police Department announced Monday it will also be filing criminal charges on Gonzales for bank robbery.

Gonzales is accused of robbing the Arroyo Grande Bank of America on April 3rd, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. Arroyo Grande police say Gonzales said he had a gun, but did not display one.

Pismo Beach Police Department Commander Jake Miller tells us there is strong evidence tying Gonzales to the Bank of America robbery that happened in that city on March 21st. Miller says the Pismo Beach Police Department will also be filing criminal charges against Gonzales.

The Arroyo Grande Police Department says video surveillance shows Gonzales used the same vehicle in the Atascadero robbery, and Bank of America surveillance video also helped with identifying the suspect.

Gonzales and Young are being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail on $60,000 bail each.
