Nipomo man arrested for alleged sexual assault of 5-year old

NIPOMO, Calif. - A Nipomo man is behind bars today. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year old over the course of a year.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's investigators say the assault took place in home on Tefft Street in Nipomo. A woman living at the home runs an unlicensed daycare center, and it's her husband who's being accused of the crime.

Sheriff's deputies served a warrant on Monday and arrested 66-year old Adam Aguirre who was booked into county jail on a felony count of sex with a victim under 10 years old and another count of oral copulation. According to Sheriff's investigators, the victim is a 5-year old child who had been at the home daycare center.

The daycare was not licensed by the state. The state agency that handles that licensing has done their own investigation into this particular center.

The Sheriff's Office says about 5 to 6 children come to the center each day. We went to knock on the door, and before we could, a woman came out. She identified herself as Aguirre's daughter. She said that the accusations against her father are false.

Neighbors up and down the quiet Nipomo street say they knew about the daycare center and are  shocked to hear about the arrest.

"It's horrible," said Danny Buck, who lives on Tefft Street. "You want the best for your kids and you want to protect them. And the sad reality of it is that you can't always do that with things out there in the world."

"It's sickening and it's disgusting," said Joe Geiger. "I know god forgives, but I still completely think he ought to do his time. It's a difficult thing for your neighborhood. You never think about it. It's such a quiet neighborhood."

Aguirre's wife, the woman who runs the daycare, is not criminally involved in this arrest whatsoever.

Aguirre meanwhile is still in custody with bail set at $100,000. The Sheriff's Office is asking for help. If you know of any additional victims, give them a call at (805) 781-4500.
