SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - As Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days Fiesta enters its 90th year, a new 'Spirit of Fiesta' and 'Junior Spirit of Fiesta' have been crowned.
The competition took place on Saturday at the Santa Barbara High School Auditorium in front of hundreds of people. Nearly two dozen talented dancers from around Santa Barbara County took the stage. The competition is fierce and includes an interview in front of a panel of judges. The winner of the 2014 'Spirit of Fiesta' is 16-year-old Talia Ortega Vestal. She attends Santa Barbara High School. The 'Junior Spirit of Fiesta' is 10-year-old Natalie Mowers. She attends Hollister Elementary School.
As 'Spirit of Fiesta', Vestal will appear at social events during Fiesta. Vestal will also open Old Spanish Days with a solo dance at the Old Mission Santa Barbara for La Fiesta Pequeña in front of thousands of people.
As 'Junior Spirit of Fiesta', Mowers will lead the popular El Desfile de Los Niños, as well as attending other events.
