SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A staff sergeant with the Army National Guard has died after apparently suffering a heart attack during a training exercise at California's Camp Roberts.
Guard officials said in a statement that 41-year-old Raul Escobedo exhibited symptoms of a heart attack Wednesday night. His fellow soldiers tried to revive him before he was flown to a San Luis Obispo hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Escobedo was originally from Fullerton. He served as an operations non-commissioned officer for the 40th infantry division.
