Mission Hope Cancer Center Hosts Art Therapy Class

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Merrill Lynn is an eight-year cancer survivor. She is a describing involved in an art therapy class called SoulCollage at Mission Hope Cancer Center.

The class helps cancer survivors and patients dealing with the disease express themselves through art therapy.

Lynn said SoulCollage gives those who are dealing with cancer a chance to grieve and "time to get quiet enough to listen to ourselves."

Terrie Miley is the class instructor and her personal experience with a life-threatening illness is what led her to this craft.

"I never healed from the things that happened in my childhood, so it had storied my whole life and I tried to outrun it," said Miley.

Now Miley is running with passion and said she hopes others will too by embracing this form of self expression because "it's a beautiful, mystical process and the wisdom that come forward helps me move into the world in a new way."

The next three SoulCollage classes will be held in the conference room at Mission Hope Cancer Center on Aug. 1, 2 and 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.
