SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif - With a little over 24 hours to go, law enforcement is preparing for New Year's Eve celebrations. Downtown San Luis Obispo will be one of the hot spots.
San Luis Obispo Police say between Christmas and New Years most of the Cal Poly and Cuesta students have gone home and things get a little quieter. However the festivities pick up in downtown with problems surrounding alcohol. "We'll have our normal patrol contingent out for the holiday New Years Eve as well as New Years, but we will be specializing in certain violations like driving under the influence and alcohol intoxication violations," said Captain Keith Storton.
To avoid getting a DUI there are several cab companies you can call. SLO Safe Rides is also gearing up with more drivers for New Years Eve. It will also have its responsibility zone in downtown where you can wait for a ride.
Police say its best to find a ride ahead of time as ride services fill up fast. Last year only two people received DUI's during New Year's Eve in San Luis Obispo.
