Gun Violence leads to Concert Across America

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Tickets are on sale now at the Arlington Theatre for the Concert Across America.

Santa Barbara will host one of the flagship concerts on Sunday, Sept 25, at 7 p.m.

More than 200 concerts will be held to coincide with the National Day of Remembrance for American murder victims.

Ozomatli, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, and Venice will take the stage at the Arlington.

Volunteers have been meeting weekly at a home in Montecito to plan the event and after party.

They include Tipper Gore and Bob Weiss. Weiss is the father of Veronika Weiss. Veronika is one of the UCSB students shot to death in the Isla Vista massacre in 2014. Three UCSB students were fatally shot, three others were stabbed to death in the killer's Isla Vista apartment before the shooting rampage.

"Here in Santa Barbara we can make a difference in the world," said Weiss.

Weiss is an activist with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and a concert chair.

"Veronika was a fighter. She would be proud of our fighting in her memory and celebrating her life with music on September 25."

He believes concerts held nationwide will get people talking about gun violence.

Organizers hope to find more sponsors to list in the concert program.

Box office workers said ticket sales for the one-of-kind show are brisk.

Tickets may be bought at the Arlington Theater box officer or online. For ticket information visit, http://thearlingtontheatre.com/news/item/335-the-concert-across-america-to-end-gun-violence

Money raised will benefit the Coalition Against Gun Violence.
