SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A young Santa Maria man is fighting to recover from a serious hit-and-run accident over the weekend
The collision happened at 11 on Saturday night, when 18-year-old Elias Anthony Eichert was riding his Schwinn Bicycle south across Santa Maria Way within a marked crosswalk.
A driver going east on the first lane of Santa Maria way at about 40 miles per hour, struck Eichert.
Eichert was thrown off his bicycle and suffered major injuries. The driver keeping going east on Santa Maria Way and didn't stop. The car driven but the suspect was described as a gray four door compact car with tinted windows, possibly a Honda or a Ford.
officers are asking anyone with more information to contact their offices.
California Highway patrol officer Craig Carrier, "since April of 2003 we've only had 5 felony hit and run crashes on or near Bradley road."
Hit and run collisions don't happen too often at the intersection of Bradley and Santa Maria Way but across Santa Maria, the city has one of the highest hit and run rates in the state.25369242
