Local Athletes Compete for CrossFit Games Championships

Men and women vie for becoming fittest in world

Local Atheletes Gear Up for CrossFit Games 2014

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - You've heard of athletes training for the Olympics, but what about gearing up to compete for the title of "fittest on earth?"

Local men and women at CrossFit Pacific Coast are taking on the first round of competition for the 2014 CrossFit Games.

CrossFit is a general physical preparedness program that tests fitness through Olympic style weightlifting, gymnastics, powerlifting, and metabolic conditioning.

Only the top athletes from 17 regions around the world advance to the next level.

"We're battling right now to get one level up which is the Southern California Region.  And they take 30 teams for that and right now we're sitting around 30," said  CrossFit Pacific Coast trainer Eric Malzone.

If the team qualifies for Regional Competition, they have the chance to grab some of only 100 spots in the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games.
